Hypericum is also known as Aaron’s Beard or Creeping St. Johnswort. It is an evergreen shrub; semi-deciduous where winters are cold. Zones 2-24. Grows up to 1 foot tall; spreads vigorous underground stems. It has short stalked leaves that are up to 4 inches long and medium green in shade. The flowers are bright yellow and 3 inches across. It takes poor soil. It is fast growing, will control erosion on hillsides. Can invade other plantings unless confined. Clip or mow off tops every 2 to 3 years during the dormant season.
